Salt Lake City-headquartered utility Rocky Mountain Power has proposed using part of a restored surface coal mine in Converse County, Wyoming, as the site for a new 99 MW wind farm.

The Glenrock Wind Energy Project will consist of 66 General Electric turbines and has an anticipated October 2008 completion date, according to the utility, which recently requested a certificate of public convenience and necessity from the Wyoming Public Service Commission for the project.

The former Dave Johnston Coal Mine operated from 1958 to 2000. Full-scale final reclamation efforts to restore the nearly nine-mile stretch of land used for mining began in 1999, and reclamation work was completed in late 2005, Rocky Mountain Power adds.
