TransAlta Buys Fairfield Hill Wind Prospect

Calgary, Alberta-headquartered Canadian Hydro Developers Inc. has closed the sale of the 21 MW Fairfield Hill Wind Prospect to TransAlta Corp., a Calgary, Alberta-based electricity generator.

Under the purchase and sale agreement, TransAlta will acquire the Fairfield Hill wind power site, including the option to develop the site at a future date. Fairfield Hill is located near the town of Dorchester in northern New Brunswick. Financial terms of the transaction have not been released.

In addition, TransAlta has increased its power purchase agreement with New Brunswick Power Distribution and Customer Service Corp. from 75 MW to 96 MW. Under the revised agreement, TransAlta will install seven additional turbines at the Kent Hills wind energy project site for a total of 32 turbines.

Construction of the expanded Kent Hills site is expected to commence by early 2008, with commercial operations beginning by the end of the same year. With this expanded facility, TransAlta will operate approximately 280 MW of wind generated power in Canada, the company adds.
