Mississauga, Ontario-headquartered Wal-Mart Canada Corp. has announced a three-year agreement to purchase 31,000 MWh of clean, renewable power from Bullfrog Power, a Canadian provider of 100% green electricity, for three of its Alberta stores.

In combination with ongoing alternative energy contracts in Ontario and British Columbia, the Alberta purchase makes Wal-Mart Canada the nation's largest commercial purchaser of green power, the company says. In 2007, Wal-Mart Canada will operate the equivalent of 15 stores emissions-free through the purchase of green power from solar, wind and low-impact hydro sources.
