Acciona Windpower, a wholly owned subsidiary of Acciona Energy, will develop its first wind turbine production plant in the U.S. in Iowa.

According to the company, the new facility is expected to provide more than 100 new jobs and produce approximately 250 wind turbines in 2008 - a figure that is expected to rise over the next few years. Construction of the new plant will begin shortly and is scheduled for completion at the end of this year.

"West Branch is ideally situated, being central to wind power resources in North America," says Peter Duprey, Acciona Energy North America Corp.'s chief executive officer. "We greatly appreciate the support that the state and the city of West Branch have provided us for our investment, and we look forward to working with their highly skilled workforce as we expand our operations to provide wind energy benefits to communities worldwide."

The 18,100 square-meter facility will be constructed on a 145,000 square-meter site Acciona purchased this month, the company adds. As part of its international expansion efforts, it will be Acciona's fourth wind turbine assembly plant - two currently operate in Spain and one in China.
