The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) has certified Newtown, Mass.-based UPC Wind's green tags from its Mars Hill Wind Farm in Maine. UPC Wind joins the network of renewable energy providers who offer products certified by Green-e, a certification and verification program for renewable energy.

The renewable energy certificates, available to wholesale consumers as Mars Hill Green Tags, come from wind resources in Aroostook County, Maine, the companies say. By purchasing Mars Hill Green Tags, customers will support these local resources and aid in the development of new resources in New England.

"There is a rapidly growing need for renewable energy sources, and Green-e certification is an important step in responding to that demand," says Paul Gaynor, UPC Wind's president and chief executive officer. "In addition, this certification helps to encourage projects such as Mars Hill, which not only delivers immediate environmental benefits, but also contributes to the surrounding community through jobs and new local revenue sources."
