Galveston-Offshore Wind LLC, a division of Wind Energy Systems Technologies, has built and is ready to install the first of two platforms to test wind velocities for a potential wind project off the coast of Galveston, Texas. The device was built with recycled deck and pilings from an offshore oil and gas platform, the Texas General Land Office says.

The meteorological towers will help gather data to determine where the proposed 150 MW project will be placed near Galveston Island. According to Jim Suydam, a representative of the land office, the testing will take place for approximately 18 months, and the company anticipates the project will be complete by 2010.
