Eastern Energy Systems Inc. (E2sys) recently completed the
installation of a Northwind 100 kW wind turbine at Half Hollow Nursery Inc. in Laurel, N.Y.The cost of the 100 kW wind turbine is $500,000, of which the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) will rebate approximately $126,000. In addition, the Half Hollow Hills Nursery may further reduce the cost of the system via a federal tax incentive and by selling the excess electric energy produced back to LIPA.
"This project is an excellent example of the power of renewable energy," says Gov. David Paterson, D-N.Y. "We not only have a smart resource that brings us closer to our goal of meeting 45 percent of our electricity needs through efficiency and renewable energy by 2015, but we are also jump-starting our economy and creating jobs for the clean energy workforce."
The Northwind 100 wind turbine is a community-scale direct-drive unit manufactured by Northern Power Systems in Barre, Vt.
