Westborough, Mass.-headquartered American Superconductor Corp. (AMSC), a provider of power electronic systems, has received an order from Suzlon Energy Australia Pty. Ltd. (SEA), a wholly owned subsidary of Suzlon, for a Dynamic VAR (D-VAR) system for Suzlon's Hallett Wind Farm in Australia.

AMSC's D-VAR system will be installed at a local utility substation connecting the Hallet Wind Farm to the national power grid. When complete, the wind farm will have a capacity of 94.5 MW, which will provide enough power for 54,000 homes per year, the companies say.

"SEA looked at several reactive compensation solutions to comply with grid interconnection requirements and found AMSC's D-VAR system to be an appropriate solution for our Hallett Wind Farm," says Serel Ogten, SEA's eletrical engineering manager.
