Croydon, England-headquartered Mott MacDonald, a consulting firm serving a variety of sectors, including energy, has acquired Westwood, Mass.-based Careba Power Engineers, an engineer and designer of electrical systems for wind farms and other renewable energy sources.

The new company, Careba Mott MacDonald, will join Mott MacDonald's North American energy team, based in Boston, to work on a range of power generation, electrical transmission and distribution, and renewable energy projects, the companies say. According to a Careba representative, the company is currently working with Noble Environmental Power, a wind project developer based in Essex, Conn., on six wind energy projects in New York - each project has a 100 MW capacity.

"Careba Power Engineers provides us with a strong base in North America's power sector, helping us to expand our energy business there alongside our existing North American company Hatch Mott MacDonald," says Mike Blackburn, Mott MacDonald's chairman.
