Martifer Energy Systems, a subsidiary of Martifer Group - a Portuguese company involved with metal construction, energy systems, agriculture and biofuel - will construct a wind tower factory in San Angelo, Texas.

This is the second wind tower factory that Martifer has constructed in four years, and it represents a total investment of approximately $40 million dollars. A grant of $945,000 from the Texas Enterprise Fund was presented to Martifer Energy Systems for the factory.

"We look forward to working in Texas to advance our efforts in becoming a global player in the supply of wind farm turnkey projects," says Antonio Pontes, CEO of Martifer Energy Systems. "This plant will leverage Martifer Energy Systems activity in the United States, a new market for the energy equipment business area and an enormous chance for the expansion of Martifer activities in turnkey wind farms, aligning with the group's strategy established for this segment."

The Martifer wind tower project was also awarded a $5 million incentive package by the city of San Angelo and the San Angelo Development Corp. The project is expected to be complete by the second half of this year.

The project is also expected to create 225 jobs and, by 2013, will produce 400 towers a year, according to the company.
