Liberty Lake, Wash.-based Raycap Inc. has expanded its wind turbine surge suppression upgrade kit product. Utilizing Raycap's patented Strikesorb surge protection device (SPD) technology, the upgrade kits can be retrofitted to replace failed DIN-rail SPD components in any existing wind turbine.

"Wind turbines are typically the tallest structures in a surrounding area, and consequently, are at the greatest risk of being struck by direct lightning," says Matt Hemphill, engineering manager at Raycap. "Our upgrade kits offer the ultimate protection from lightning and power surges in wind turbines and continually protect the generator, transformer and other key electronic systems, ultimately keeping the turbine online and generating power."

Providing uninterrupted protection from direct lightning strikes that induce up to 200kA surges, Strikesorb upgrade kits can sustain multiple and successive lightning-induced power surges without requiring maintenance, according to the company.
