Kettle Foods, a Salem, Ore.-headquartered potato chip maker with distribution throughout North America, Japan, Guam and western Europe, is purchasing wind energy credits to offset 100% of its electricity use in the U.S.

In a partnership with Boulder, Colo.-based Renewable Choice Energy, a national provider and marketer of wind power, the company will purchase 8.75 million kWh of renewable energy credits (REC) annually.

In addition to offsetting all energy used at the Kettle Foods headquarters, the company says it will also extend its wind power commitment to its new plant in Beloit, Wis., which is scheduled to begin production early next year.
