The Port of Longview (Washington) Board of Commissioners has approved the purchase of a shoreside mobile harbor crane. The crane has a lifting capacity of 104 metric tons and will assist in the transport of wind turbine sets and tower components for wind energy projects.

"We are committed to supporting our current and future customers shipping heavy lift cargoes and particularly the wind energy sector," says Ken O'Hollaren, port executive director.

Wind energy comprises 25% of the port's marine cargo service. The port, which has strategic transportation connections on the deep-draft Columbia River shipping channel, expects to take delivery of the crane in July 2008.
