An affiliate of Mitsui & Co. has acquired a 50% stake in the Eoliatec del Pacifico, S.A.P.I. de C.V., which owns the 160 MW Santo Domingo Wind Project, located in Oaxaca, Mexico.

According to EDF EN Mexico, which co-owns the project, the wind farm is scheduled to begin producing power in April 2014. EDF EN Mexico, which has 300 MW in development in Oaxaca, operates a 67.5 MW wind farm in the vicinity.

Mitsui notes the project will be powered by 80 Gamesa 2 MW wind turbines. Two private-sector companies have agreed to purchase the wind farm's output over 15 years.

The Santo Domingo agreement follows Mitsuiā€™s February acquisition of half of the 164 MW Bii Stinu wind project, also located in Oaxaca. In addition to wind energy, Mitsui also co-owns several Mexico-based gas-fired combined-cycle power stations.
