E.ON has officially opened the 48 MW Karehamn offshore wind farm, which was connected to the grid a few weeks ago after 19 months of construction. Located near the Swedish island of Oland in the Baltic Sea, Karehamn comprises 16 Vestas V112 turbines, each with a capacity of 3 MW.

The wind farm cost approximately $160 million and utilized the MPI Discovery installation vessel, which E.ON had commissioned especially for its offshore wind farms and has exclusively chartered for the next six years. The vessel, E.ON notes, has six jack-up legs that lift it out of the water to provide a stable platform.
