Iberdrola Using Supercomputer To Predict Wind Farm Output

NA Windpower, Monday 29 July 2013 - 00:00:00

Iberdrola says it is teaming up with the Spain-based Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) to improve estimates of wind farms' electrical energy production before they are constructed.

Dubbed the Sedar Project (High Resolution Wind Simulation), the initiative will utilize software run by the MareNostrum supercomputer to develop a new model for predicting the most suitable locations for onshore and offshore wind turbines. Both the development of the project and its subsequent application will take place at BSC's facilities.
