Construction service providers working on the 576 MW Gwynt y Mor Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of North Wales, report that more than half of the project's 160 monopiles have been installed.

According to FoundOcean, the project focus has turned to securing the turbine pieces to the monopiles using high-strength grout. In fact, the company says since April, it has moved to a 24-hour grouting operation. Working with RWE Innogy, the project's owner, FoundOcean says it continued working over the winter months in temperatures as low as 2 degrees C.

"This is currently the largest wind farm ever constructed on the U.K.’s west coast and therefore, required a robust materials logistic solution," says Simon Wright, FoundOcean's project manager, adding that the company and BASF adopted a system capable of delivering large volumes of cement over the construction phase.
