EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) has exercised an option to acquire the remaining 49% interest in the 161 MW Spinning Spur II wind project from Cielo Wind Power LP, bringing EDF RE's ownership to 100%.

In addition, EDF RE has signed a turbine supply agreement with General Electric (GE) for the purchase of 87 wind turbines with a rated capacity of 1.85 MW each. Spinning Spur II spans approximately 16,800 acres in Oldham County, Texas, and construction is slated to start in June, with an operational date of mid-summer 2014.

EDF RE says Spinning Spur II will be one of the first projects to take advantage of the new Competitive Renewable Energy Zones transmission line in the Texas panhandle. The project’s electricity will be sold under a 10-year energy purchase agreement.
