Westar Energy Inc. has announced that two wind farms with a combined capacity of 369 MW have been completed in Kansas.

The first wind farm, the 168 MW Ironwood Wind Power Project, is located in Ford and Hodgeman counties on a site owned by Westar. A portion of the site was offered to Duke Energy for its use in building the project for Westar. The nacelles for the turbines used at this site were manufactured by Siemens Energy in Hutchinson, Kan., Westar notes.

The other project, the 201 MW Post Rock Wind Farm, is located in Ellsworth and Lincoln counties. It was developed and is owned by St. Louis-based Wind Capital Group.

With these projects complete, Westar Energy’s total renewable energy portfolio now totals 670 MW. The company notes that it has also made grid upgrades in the region to allow more wind energy to be brought online and to move wind power produced in rural areas to population centers.
