The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), a federal power marketing agency based in Portland, Ore., is issuing a request for proposals (RFP) for the research and development of new renewable energy technologies for the BPA and the utilities it serves in the Pacific Northwest.

The RFP is being issued under BPA's new Renewable Energy Technology Program and will accept proposals regarding wind, ocean wave and in-stream tidal projects.

According to the administration, the proposals must illustrate that projects will enhance the capability of the electric system to assimilate utility-scale wind energy resources; identify the technological gaps that stand in the way of deploying these technologies and potential solutions; outline partnerships with other utilities, national laboratories, universities, and federal, state and local governments; and assess potential impacts to the environment.

The BPA says it will support the funding up to 65% of the total project costs. All proposals are due by Jan. 19, 2007 - any questions can be directed to Diane Roth at (503) 230-5091. The RFP can be downloaded from www.bpa.gov/corporate/business/innovation
