Fishermen's Energy Receives Final Construction Permit

Fishermen's Energy says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has approved its individual permit under the Clean Water Act for the developer's proposed offshore wind farm, located off the coast of Atlantic City, N.J.

With receipt of this permit, the developer says it now has all the required federal and state permits needed to begin construction of the first U.S. demonstration offshore wind farm.

Fishermen’s says it will now focus on final contractor selection for the project, with special emphasis on New Jersey vendors as practical. According to the developer, construction in Atlantic City is planned to commence onshore in 2013, with offshore construction and commissioning expected in 2014.

The USACE process coordinated the input of the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the National Marine Fisheries Service and other federal agencies.

"The Fishermen’s Atlantic City project is more advanced in terms of engineering, permitting, and procurement than any other offshore project and will significantly advance renewable energy for New Jersey and the nation,” says Chris Wissemann, CEO of Fishermen’s Energy. “What New Jersey has created with its Energy Master Plan and Offshore Wind Economic Development Act is what should happen on the national level."
