Madison Gas and Electric (MGE), a subsidiary of MGE Energy Inc., has committed to purchasing energy from three wind farms to meet Wisconsin's 10% by 2015 renewable energy requirement.

According to the company, the projects will increase its portfolio of 11 MW to 86 MW. The agreements include the 30 MW Top of Iowa II wind farm in north-central Iowa that MGE Energy will build and own, a power purchase agreement from the adjacent 30 MW Top of Iowa III wind farm, and a contract to purchase 15 MW from the Forward Energy wind project near Waupun, Wis.

A portion of the renewable energy will be included in MGE's overall electricity mix, and another portion will be allocated to the company's green pricing program, which allows its customers to purchase blocks of clean energy.
