Wisconsin Power and Light Co. (WP&L), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corp., received unanimous approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) for an application to construct the Cedar Ridge Wind Farm.

When complete, Cedar Ridge will generate between 60 MW and 99 MW of energy. The wind farm will consist of 41 wind turbines over a 12.2 square-mile area in the townships of Eden and Empire in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. WPL expects the wind farm to be operational by the end of 2008 at an estimated cost of approximately $180 million.

The utility says it will review the PSCW's written order on the company's application for fixed financial parameters for Cedar Ridge, filed under the provisions of Wisconsin Act 7. After reviewing the written order, WPL will determine whether to make the investment in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Act 7 decision, or through traditional rate recovery.
