Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe Ltd. (MPSE) plans to invest up to 100 million pounds sterling for the creation of the Centre for Advanced Technology in Edinburgh, Scotland. The engineering facility will be designed to carry out research and development (R&D) in offshore wind turbine technologies. MPSE will also acquire Artemis Intelligent Power (AIP), safeguarding 25 jobs and creating 30 engineering posts at the Scottish technology firm.

"Scotland is a leader in the development of clean energy and boasts a world-class research and development base that is pioneering technologies that will have a global impact on combating climate change," says Alex Salmond, first minister of Scotland.

Over the next five years, MPSE expects to create up to 200 jobs at the new center and at AIP. If the technology is successful, this could lead to the creation of a major offshore wind turbine manufacturing site in Scotland, according to the company.
