Santa Clara, Calif.-headquartered APX Inc., a technology provider for the renewable energy industry, has been selected by UPC Wind, a Newtown, Mass.-based wind farm developer, to provide scheduling services to support the sales of electric output from its 42 MW Mars Hill wind project in the Northern Maine Independent System Administrator (NMISA) control area.

APX will provide day-ahead and hour-ahead scheduling services for the project. Information from UPC Wind's forecasting service will be converted into a schedule, automatically mapped to the format prescribed by NMISA and uploaded for the following day, the companies say. In addition, APX will update the day-ahead schedules with hourly forecast information for intra-day scheduling.

"Supporting wind and renewable power generators with operational services is a rapidly growing part of our business," says Tom Lewis, APX's chair and chief executive officer. "Our clients benefit from the scale and efficiency of APX because we are able to provide power scheduling services at a fraction of the price relative to the costs of doing this in house."
