Shell WindEnergy Inc., a subsidiary of Shell, recently submitted an application to the Humboldt County Planning Department to construct the proposed Bear River Wind Power Project in Northern California.

According to Tim O'Leary, Shell WindEnergy's communication manager, the project consists of 30 to 35 wind turbines for a capacity between 60 MW and 70 MW of energy. The company is developing the project with a dozen landowners that formed their own company; therefore, it would be built on private land. O'Leary says there are still studies that need to be performed as well as a number of permits to obtain, so the company expects it will be one to two years before the wind farm can be constructed.
