Vestas, a wind turbine manufacturer headquartered in Denmark, has received an order from Alite Wind LLC, part of the Allco Wind Energy group, for 24 MW of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine for a project in the Tehachapi Pass area of Southern California.

According to Vestas, the company's turbines will be used for the first phase of the Alta Wind Energy Center that is under development by Alta Innovative Power Co. LLC, a joint venture between Allco Wind Energy and Oak Creek Energy Systems Inc.

Under the terms of the agreement, Vestas will supply and commission the wind turbines, as well as provide maintenance and service for a five-year period. Shipment of the first turbines will begin in the third quarter of 2007, and the wind farm is scheduled to be operational in October of this year, the company adds.

Energy from the Alta Wind Energy Center will be supplied to Southern California Edison under a power purchase agreement that was made in December of 2006. (See "SCE Secures Largest U.S. Utility Contract For Wind Power.")
