Four Colorado Institutions Join To Advance Renewable Energy

| The University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Colorado State University (CSU) and the Colorado School of Mines have signed a Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory, paving the way for extended cooperation in developing new renewable energy technologies. The agreement allows the four institutions to work together to develop new technologies and distribution systems, and to work with business partners to develop new market strategies and sustainable business practices, according to the officials who signed the agreement. The signers included G.P. Peterson, CU-Boulder's chancellor; Dan Arvizu, NREL's director; Larry Penley, CSU's president; and Myles Scoggins, Colorado School of Mines' president. "We already have three major proposed projects that we could not have done as individual institutions," says Susan Avery, CU-Boulder's vice chancellor for research. "I am excited about the possibilities this opens for new research, new educational opportunities for students, and new partnerships that ultimately should position Colorado as the intellectual and economic leader in renewable energy." The collaboration has received support from the Colorado Authority, which provides up to $2 million annually in matching funds for large federal and private renewable energy research projects. |
