Wisconsin PSC Approves Wind Farm In Fond Du Lac County

| The Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) has given its verbal approval for the development of a wind farm in Fond du Lac County. A representative from We Energies, the Milwaukee-based electric utility that is developing the wind farm, says the project is pending the final written order from PSC. Once We Energies receives the written approval - which the company expects will be in the next couple of weeks - it can install 88 wind turbines in the townships of Marshfield and Calumet, with a total capacity of 203 MW. The company says it does not know which turbine manufacturer will be used for the project. RENEW Wisconsin, a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of renewable energy, says it supports PSC's decision to build the wind farm called Blue Sky Green Field. "The project would be built in the state's most productive location for large-scale wind development," says Michael Vickerman, RENEW Wisconsin's executive director. Last year, Gov. Jim Doyle signed Act 141 into law, which calls for state utilities to produce 10% of Wisconsin's electricity from renewables by 2015. Currently, about 4% comes from renewables. |
