A package of bills aimed at stiffening wind power regulations in Maryland have failed in the General Assembly, the Associated Press reports. According to Republican Delegate Wendell Beitzel of Garrett County, the House Economic Matters Committee did not approve the bills.

Similar measures sponsored by Garrett County Republican George Edwards have stalled in the state Senate. One of the bills would have repealed the fast-track approval process established in 2007.

Two projects in western Maryland have received expedited approval, but there are still no wind farms operating in the state. Beitzel says those who live near wind farms need more protection from the impact of such projects on their quality of life and property values.
