The Watonwan County Board of Commissioners in Minnesota recently approved a five-turbine wind farm to be constructed in the township of Odin.
The project will be developed by five limited liability companies (LLCs), which are part of a community-owned project named Community Based Energy Development. Each turbine will generate a capacity of 2 MW and will be mounted on 80-meter towers. According to a representative of the county board, the LLCs have at least one year to show progress on the wind farm. They also must acquire building permits for the towers and permits to build transmission lines.
Once the project is complete, the energy produced from the wind farm will be sold to Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Missouri River Energy.
