Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES-Americas), a wind project developer based in Austin, Texas, has purchased 26 2.3 MW wind turbines from Siemens Power Generation, a Brande, Denmark-headquartered turbine manufacturer.

According to RES-Americas, the turbines will be installed at the Whirlwind Energy Center, located in Floyd County, Texas. They will produce a capacity of 59.8 MW of wind power, which is enough to power approximately 28,000 Texas homes.

"RES-Americas is excited about our continued relationship with Siemens," says Craig Mataczynski, president of RES-Americas. "By securing these turbines, RES is moving full speed ahead with the Whirlwind Energy Center, which is expected to start construction in March of 2007 and will be completed in late 2007."

In addition, the power from the wind farm will be sold to Austin Energy under a recently executed long-term power purchase agreement. RES-Americas intends to own a significant portion of the wind farm and be the project operator, the company adds.
