High Prairie Substation Approved

High Prairie Wind Farm LLC, owned by Houston-headquartered Horizon Wind Energy, recently received approval from the Mower County Board of Commissioners (Minnesota) to construct, operate and maintain a 161 kV substation and high voltage transmission line powered by the Prairie Star Wind Farm.

According to Horizon Wind, Prairie Star Wind Farm is scheduled to begin operations in late 2007. It will consist of 61 Vestas wind turbines that each measure 260 feet tall, and will have a total capacity of 100 MW.

In addition, Horizon Wind signed a power purchase agreement with Great River Energy, an Elk River, Minn.-based electric wholesale supplier, to purchase 100 MW of wind energy from the Prairie Star Wind Farm.
