North American Windpower: Businesses And Organizations Request Congress Change 2007 Budget

In a letter delivered to congressional leaders, 102 businesses, consumers, and environmental and energy policy groups urged that federal energy research and development funds be shifted from fossil fuel and nuclear power programs to those supporting renewable energy.

The letter proposes changes for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) fiscal 2007 budget, which the 110th Congress is expected to consider shortly after convening on Jan. 4. The group's recommendations include funding all core renewable energy and energy efficiency programs equal to (or more than) fiscal 2006 levels. The letter also requests Congress to restore and maintain policy, research, development and demonstration funding for the DOE Distributed Energy program at the fiscal 2006 level of $60 million.
