Direct Energy, a non-utility retail energy provider, has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Horizon Wind Energy, a wind farm developer and subsidiary of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

Direct Energy will purchase all of the energy output and renewable energy credits from Horizon Wind's 200 MW Lone Star Wind Farm located 15 miles northeast of Abilene, Texas. The wind farm is scheduled to be operational in the spring of 2007.

"Renewable energy development provides major benefits for industry, consumers and the environment, and the Lone Star Wind Farm specifically affords us the opportunity to secure a long-term source of clean energy and deliver on our commitment to providing our customers with a renewable product," says Phil Tonge, president of U.S. operations for Direct Energy.
