Dominion, a Richmond, Va.-headquartered producer of energy, has acquired a 50% interest in a wind farm in Grant County, W.Va., which is being developed by Shell WindEnergy Inc., a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell PLC.

Under terms of the agreement, Dominion will enter a joint venture agreement with Shell WindEnergy to develop the first phase of the wind facility near Dominion's Mt. Storm Power Station, which will produce 164 MW of electricity, the companies say. The project will consist of 82 turbines that produce 2 MW each. They will be constructed on the Allegheny Front, which has an average elevation of 3,100 feet at the project site.

According to the companies, all regulatory and environmental permits required to begin construction are in place, including the transmission interconnection application and approval process with the PJM wholesale power market.
