Sunflower Electric Power Corp., a Hays, Kan.-headquartered wholesale power supplier, has agreed to purchase 50.4 MW of wind energy from TradeWind Energy LLC, a Lenexa, Kan.-based wind energy developer.

The wind energy will be produced by TradeWind's Smoky Hills Wind Farm, which will be built 25 miles west of Salina, Kan. The wind farm is slated to be complete by the end of 2007, and will produce a capacity of 250 MW, the company says.

"We view this agreement as a platform for Sunflower and TradeWind to develop projects together in the future," says Bob Johnson, Sunflower's executive manager of engineering and energy services.
According to the companies, this agreement is for a 20-year term.
