Carrabassett Valley, Maine-headquartered Sugarloaf/USA and Newry, Maine-based Sunday River ski resorts have chosen to offset 100% of their electricity usage jointly with energy generated from wind.

The two resorts are purchasing 30 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Constellation NewEnergy, a Baltimore-headquartered subsidiary of Constellation Energy, to achieve this goal. According to the resorts, this purchase will keep more than 41 million pounds of carbon dioxide from releasing into the atmosphere.

"I am pleased that the two largest ski areas in the state are taking a key role in supporting the use of renewable energy and, by doing so, benefiting all Maine people," says Governor John Baldacci.
