Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara's municipal electric utility, says it will grow its eligible renewable energy by 50% as the result of two new wind power contracts. The utility recently signed a new power purchase agreement with San Diego-based Seawest LLC. The arrangement follows SVP's recent contract with PPM Energy's Big Horn Project. Both contracts will push SVP to 34% renewable for next year.

"These new agreements could not be more timely, confirming the signing of a landmark global warming law [in California] and the push for electric utilities to provide 20 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2010," says Junona Jonas, SVP director. "Our support of wind power and other renewable energy programs has put us well ahead of the state's 20 percent goal."
