Illinois-based Hoosier Energy has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables North America for the Rail Splitter Wind Farm.

Under the deal, the generation and transmission cooperative will buy 25 MW of energy from the Illinois wind farm starting in December. The Rail Splitter project, which has an installed capacity of about 100 MW, has been in operation since 2009.

"Hoosier Energy is focused on providing cost-effective renewable energy for our member systems," says Steve Smith, Hoosier Energy president and CEO. "Our agreement with EDP Renewables adds more wind resources to our portfolio, which already includes wind, hydro, landfill methane and coalbed methane generation."
