ACCIONA Windpower will supply 70 3 MW AW3000 wind turbines for two Brazilian wind farms planned by developer VOLTALIA. The contract includes delivery, transportation, installation and commissioning of the turbines, as well as a long-term service and maintenance agreement.

According to ACCIONA, the turbines will be used for the 120 MW Sao Miguel do Gostoso and 90 MW Areia Branca projects. The wind farms, located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, have 20-year power purchase agreements won by VOLTALIA in 2011 by virtue of a public tender.

Construction at the Sao Miguel do Gostoso and Areia Branca sites will begin in the third quarter, with electricity generation to start progressively in 2014 and 2015. The company is currently selecting civil work and miscellaneous electrical contractors. VOLTALIA is also proceeding with project debt-raising.

The wind turbines will be installed on 120-meter-high concrete towers manufactured on-site, which ACCIONA says reduces transport costs and the impact on the environment.
