APS, a Phoenix-headquartered utility, has submitted its plan for meeting the state's renewable energy standard, which requires utilities to derive 15% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025.

APS plans to add new options to its existing renewable energy programs, the utility says. Choices now include a Green Choice program that enables customers to designate a percentage of their power to come from renewable energy (above what APS already must provide) and a soon-to-be-launched Total Solar program.

Currently, customers who choose the renewable options receive a mix of wind and geothermal energy - with biomass to be added next year. All APS customers already receive a portion of their power from wind, geothermal and solar energy, the company adds.

"This will give customers real choice into the amount of renewable energy provided by APS," says Barbara Lockwood, manager of renewable energy at APS. "As more customers participate in the Green Choice program, APS will purchase more renewable energy."
