EPRI Names New R&D Director

| The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), a Palo Alto, Calif.-headquartered nonprofit center for public interest energy and environmental research, has hired Bryan Hannegan as managing director of the environment research and design (R&D) sector. He will work out of EPRI's Washington, D.C., office, and in early 2007 relocate to Palo Alto. Hannegan most recently served as the chief of staff at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and as an acting special assistant to President Bush for economic policy. During his tenure, he led the development of the president's advanced energy initiative and assisted Federal agencies in their implementation of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Prior to joining the White House staff in April 2003, Hannegan served as staff scientist to the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, where he handled energy efficiency, renewable energy, alternative fuels, and environmental aspects of energy production and use. "Bryan's experiences as both a scientist and a policy advisor give him a unique perspective on the linked energy and environmental challenges electric utilities faces today," says Hank Courtright, EPRI's senior vice president for environment/member services. "Bryan's capabilities are an important addition to EPRI's highly regarded climate team working to fulfill the R&D needs of our members." |
