Alstom Signs Mega Deal With Brazilian Wind Energy Developer

| Alstom Renewable Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Renova Energia to supply, operate and maintain approximately 440 onshore wind turbines in Brazil. The deal, worth 1 billion euros, represents 1.2 GW of new wind power generation capacity. Under the MOU, Alstom will supply its 2.7 MW and 3 MW wind turbines to Renova's wind farms in the Brazilian state of Bahia. Delivery is set to begin in 2015 and last for three to four years. The companies will begin by selecting which turbine is appropriate for each wind project site - a process that will take approximately two years. A governance committee, composed of members of the top management of both companies, will be created and will follow up on the execution of the agreement. The wind turbines will be manufactured at Alstom’s unit in Camacari, Bahia. Opened in November 2011, the plant has a manufacturing capacity of 300 MW a year with one work shift. The agreement with Renova Energia confirms Alstom’s decision to work with two shifts from the first half of this year, thus increasing the manufacturing capacity to 600 MW a year. Alstom will work toward the establishment of a wind cluster in Bahia, in partnership with other companies, for the production of the main components of the turbines, the company notes. |
