Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Inc. (SEL), has recently released the SEL-451-4 Bay Control, Automation and Protection System, which allows local operators to view equipment configuration, analog systems quantities, and breaker and disconnect switch status on a one-line diagram.

According to the company, the system comes with pre-configured bay arrangements that include single- and dual-bus bar, transfer bus, tie-breaker, breaker-and-a-half, ring-bus, double-bus/double-breaker and dual source transfer. Local operators can control up to two breakers and five disconnect switches, while providing status for up to three breakers and five disconnect switches.

"Early prototype customers have been impressed with the robustness of the device, including operating temperature range and contact outputs that directly operate breakers and eliminate the need for interposing relays," says Julian Alzate, product development manager. "The dynamic one-line bay diagram display and alarm points allow local operators to immediately view bay equipment status and critical alarms."
