The German cabinet has approved draft legislation designed to speed the development of offshore wind farms, Reuters reports.

The draft legislation aims to pass some of the risk of developing offshore wind farms on to consumers, because those risks have been a deterrent to investors, according to the Reuters report, which adds that grid operators, such as TenneT, have experienced difficulties with their connections to German offshore wind farms.

Under the draft law, which would take effect this year, consumers would pay around 10 euros extra per year.
