Attorneys for the Ontario government will seek to dismiss a legal action filed by Trillium Power Wind Corp. after the province canceled all offshore wind energy projects in February 2011.

Trillium Power says it was well advanced in developing wind projects located between 10 km and 120 km offshore in the Great Lakes when the provincial government announced the moratorium.

According to Trillium Power, the province has yet to produce a statement of defense. The province has advanced only procedural arguments, which have led to delays, Trillium says.

The company adds that it will continue to work with the province to advance the development of Ontario’s offshore wind resources.

According to Trillium, the Ontario government announced the moratorium on offshore wind just one hour before the company was to complete financing arrangements for its TPW1 offshore wind project, which was planned for 28 km offshore in Lake Ontario.
