North American Windpower: Invenergy Contracts With GE For Another 600 MW

Invenergy Wind LLC, a subsidiary of Invenergy LLC, has recently contracted with General Electric Co. (GE) to purchase 400 of GE's 1.5 MW wind turbines totaling 600 MW for use in projects slated for construction in 2007.

In 2005, Invenergy Wind financed and put into operation three wind energy projects totaling 350 MW using GE's 1.5 MW turbines. Invenergy currently has several other projects using GE machines under construction, including the Victory, Camp Springs and Centennial Wind Energy projects, the company says.

"We are pleased with our continuing turbine orders with Invenergy," says Simon Olivier, GE Energy Power Generation's team leader for Canada and northeastern U.S. "This latest order represents yet another important endorsement of our proven wind technology from one of North America's leading wind developers."

Invenergy Canada has also recently become a Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) Leading Edge member, supporting CanWEA's goal of 10,000 MW of wind energy installed in Canada by the year 2010.
