The Renewable Energy Initiative (REI) of Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., held a ribbon-cutting event to dedicate its 100 kW wind turbine that was installed at the university-owned Broyhill Inn & Conference Center. The Northwind 100 kW wind turbine was installed by Alteris Renewables.

"With the installation of this wind turbine, Appalachian State has sent a strong message about the importance of fighting climate change," says Bob Chew, president of Alteris Renewables' wind division.

The REI is charged with funds generated by a student green fee that is used to bring renewable energy technology to Appalachian State University.
