As part of the Ontario government's climate change plan, Premier Dalton McGuinty has set aggressive targets to reduce the province's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

According to McGuinty's office, the next steps in the premier's climate change plan include research and innovation into new technologies that would fight climate change and strengthen the economy; home audits and incentives for municipalities to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions; and finishing closing Ontario's coal plants. In addition, the Environment Commissioner will report to the legislature and independent review on the government's progress in reducing GHG emissions.

"Climate change is the defining issue of our generation - we've come a long way, but we have more to do, together," comments McGuinty. "By putting Ontario at the forefront of green innovation, we can meet our responsibility to the generations to come and create jobs and new opportunities for people today."
